Quadra Island has always appealed to the independent spirit and to those people who consider quality of living an important aspect of life. The newcomer is quickly enchanted by the outstanding natural beauty of the island but it does not take long to realize that one of Quadra's real treasures is its people. The sense of community on Quadra is second to none. It has been called the friendly island because of the way it welcomes guests and newcomers. The energy and spirit in the community contribute greatly to the quality of life on the island. There are so many events and activities offered that it is easy to find something of interest for everyone.
It is seldom necessary to leave the island as Quadra offers a great many services, including a gas bar, two excellent grocery stores, two post offices, a credit union, a building supply, a library, and a variety of other shops to serve the needs of the islanders. For vacationing guests there are several resorts and a number of Bed & Breakfast establishments. There is also a full range of craftsmen, tradesmen, artisans and other skilled and talented people.
For health and emergency concerns there are two medical clinics, a dental clinic and an RCMP detachment. The volunteer fire depeartment and ambulance service are both manned by caring, highly trained and energetic islanders.
The elementary school on the island goes to grade 6 and a well organized system transports students to the high schools in Campbell River.
